Hi all! I’m team captain Olivia Marcoux here to give you a quick introduction to our team. Firstly, I’m a junior and this is my third year with the team. I’ve always been passionate about leading people, setting an example, and of course, STEM! Being on this team and a part of FIRST robotics has helped me to develop teamwork, communication, and engineering skills which are all essential to being successful today.
For some basic background on our team, we are located in Woonsocket, Rhode Island at Mount Saint Charles Academy. We’re a team of about 15 and this is our seventh year.
As a team we operate under the belief that anyone can learn the technical skills we use and everyone can find a role on this team that they will succeed in. This mission statement is what we say to new recruits and what we apply to problems that we find - within each of us there is the ability to learn how to overcome the problem. This isn’t just about building a robot, but also about our outreach and our world. If there is a problem in our workplace, our personal lives, or society, we can become educated about it and find solutions.
We meet about 4 hours a week during the competition season and about 2 hours every other week through the rest of the year. When we aren’t building a competition robot, we are developing our repertoire of skills by educating each other and having different team members hold workshops about things they have knowledge about. Additionally, this year we are preparing team outreach events in our community focused around education and STEM awareness.
Our team is currently looking towards our future. We are overhauling the way that we think and act in order to create competitive robots with the goal of going beyond our state in competitions while also creating a lasting impact on our community and a program which will change the culture of our school. Follow our socials and check back to this website to see what we’re up to in the future!
